How to Get Your Kids to Eat Vegetables & Why a Food Chopper Helps

Kid Eating an AppleThis all started with me trying to find a way to get my kids to eat vegetables!

I discovered a simple recipe with pasta, chicken breast and a lot of vegetables. I chose a lot of different types of vegetables I knew my kids were “OK” with and then “kind of” snuck in the vegetables. They first wrinkled up their faces and said “no way” but then I convinced them to just try one small bite.

That was the end of that story. My kids realized that Dad was not always trying to be sneaky but had their best interest in mind, like stuffing vegetables down their throats.

So, now that you see the dilemma and my solution to getting my kids to eat vegetables, the next problem came with chopping up all of those vegetables. That’s where the Pampered Chef Cutting Edge Food Chopper came to my rescue.

Here are a list of positives and negatives I have found from experience and with other reviews on-line.

PositivesNuts

  • Easy to use
  • Great for chopping nuts & vegetables
  • High quality materials
  • Easy to assemble and disassemble
  • Easy to clean
  • Great for washing in the dishwasher

Negatives

  • The groves on the plastic that hold the handle to the plastic case may eventually break. This is our second Pampered Chef food chopper and we absolutely love it but we had to replace our first chopper after 3 or 4 years. We did not hesitate to buy a replacement as it is a great kitchen tool for us.

The Pampered Chef Cutting Edge Food Chopper Reduced My Time in The Kitchen Substantially

I normally wouldn’t be so bold about making such a statement but it is absolutely true.

It’s great when you can easily grab something close by you in the kitchen and it’s ready in moments to make your life easier. Then, when you’re done, you just pull a few pieces apart, place it in the dishwasher and you’re all finished.

    1. Thank you for stopping by and checking out the review. It definitely is something to remember and you most likely will when you’re current chopper breaks or you’re chopping with a knife. Have a great day and thanks again for stopping by and saying hello.

  1. This is a great post, Rick. I know some families struggle to feed their kids veggies/fruits and while I don’t have kids, and I love eating vegetables and fruits, this was still a wonderful & informative post. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Alex. Thank you for stopping by.

That’s great that you are already are into the fruits and vegetables. I just found that when I started eating a log of vegetables that the handy little food chopper I had always ignored became my best friend. It takes time to cut up vegetables with a knife, unless you’re a chef, I guess.

  2. I used to have the Pampered Chef chopper too, and I really liked it! I don’t mind chopping up veggies the old fashioned way, but it would be nice to have that chopper on hand again. Especially since I eat a plant-based diet, I’m chopping up lots of veggies!

What’s great about it too is that my kids loved to use it. They would get all their frustrations out on the veggies they were about to be forced to eat! They had a great time banging on that chopper!

Thank you for the reminder about this great tool. Do you have other favorite kitchen tools and appliances?

    1. That’s funny. I have forgotten about taking out all our frustrations on the veggies also. Thank you for reminding me.

Besides the Pampered Chef food chopper, we use the Ninja Auto iQ Blender a lot. We use it mostly for making smoothies or protein drinks and we love the it.

We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel and we just had a new convection oven and microwave installed. It’s been nice having the new appliances as the ones we replaced were 23 years old. The convection oven is really great.

  3. Great post/review! I am one of those guys who doesn’t like to chop veggies with a knife. So this would be right up my alley. Simple and straight to the point!

  4. This is a great review on food chopper. There are far more pros of this product than cons. I am always looking for ways to simplify my life. And this chopper looks like a great product. I will definitely keep this in mind when it comes to the time of buying one. Thank you very much for sharing.

  5. Great Review Belden22. We love frying or baking a pile of freshed chopped seasoned potatoes with bacon and eggs. The potatoes are our favorite. My wife has a electric chopper but its a job to clean every time so we usually just cut them up by hand. This will come in handy. Thanks

    1. I agree that some of the nicer more expensive ones can also be more difficult to clean up, put up and find a place to store it. That’s probably the biggest thing I like about this Pampered Chef food chopper. It can always be close by because it is so small and it’s super easy to take apart and clean. It really is something we will always have in our kitchen.

  6. Hey there! I found your article really informative and helpful. I’m looking for a food chopper and luckily I read your review about Pampered Chef Cutting Edge Food Chopper. I wanted to buy this one after I read your review but how does this compare to a food processor? I really appreciate your response.

    1. Thank you for the question.

I food processor is larger (electric) and is able to handle around 10 cups of food or more. It has interchangeable parts and can slice grate and some can even knead bread. The food processor is preferable for big jobs. I would use a food processor more if I cooked a lot or had large meals to prepare.

The food chopper is compact and will chop about 1 or 2 cups of vegetables or nuts at a time. It really is meant for smaller tasks like chopping up a few ingredients.

I prefer the food chopper over the processor primarily due to its size and ease of use. The chopper is always close by and it’s quick to use and fast to take apart to throw it in the dishwasher.

      I hope that helps.
